1.0 Accounting Technician
SUMMARY:
The primary function of the Accounting Technician is the processing of accounting transactions, reviewing accounting process and to serve as backup for various positions in the Business Office.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- The Accounting Technician reports to the Controller
- Works with administrators and others to perform duties as outlined
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12 month (260-262 days)
- Salary (step/level placement) & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research
- Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with staff and outside contacts
Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus; Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the supervisor.
- Perform daily data processing in financial system for all revenues, cash receipts, change orders and journal entries for all District funds.
- Review the monthly negative balance reports. Follow up with administrators regarding any over-expenditures and requests appropriate budget transfers to update budget code status.
- Serves as bank liaison for returned deposit items, deposit discrepancies, and other bank transactions.
- Manage District postage operations including prepayments and reconciliations.
- Coordinate District incoming and outgoing USPS mail.
- Monitor and analyze various District expenses and revenues accounts.
- Assist the Controller with taxpayer inquiries, customer service, Act 80 coordination, taxpayer refunds and various tax account analyses.
- Assist Purchasing Agent to process purchase orders and change orders.
- Provide assistance with the preparation of year-end and month-end close out of the general fund. Provides information and assistance for the local auditors.
- Maintain accounting records as directed.
- Maintain cash receipts deposit support for all bank accounts.
- Maintain monthly journal entry binders.
