                                  1.0 - Assistant Custodial Supervisor 

 

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Custodial Supervisor provides supervision of custodial programs and personnel at all assigned school buildings.  Insures clean, safe, well maintained, and sanitary conditions in all buildings as assigned. Makes recommendations of personnel, custodial materials and equipment, cleaning procedures, and budget through the Custodial Supervisor.

 

The Assistant Custodial Supervisor provides supervision of custodial programs and personnel at all assigned school buildings.  Insures clean, safe, well maintained, and sanitary conditions in all buildings, as assigned. Makes recommendations of personnel, custodial materials and equipment, cleaning procedures, and budget through the Custodial Supervisor.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Works cooperatively with other administrators, supervisors, staff, parents and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined
  • Direct reports include Head Custodians, Quality Assurance Specialists, Custodians, and Security Guards.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Salary & Benefits in accordance with the Non-Bargaining/Confidential unit of the West Chester Area School District.
  2. This position is of an essential nature. When required individual must report to deal with emergency and weather-related matters.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification and requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

 

  • Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research.
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, and outside professional contacts.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, in addition to applicable technical training.
  • Minimum five years of experience in safety regulations, proper cleaning methods and appropriate storage of chemicals and maintenance of equipment to do so.
  • Minimum three years of experience in leadership, supervisory and/or management level position with multiple reportable parties.
  • Must be cooperative and flexible in an environment with changes and interruptions
  • Dress, look and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
  • Act 34 ,151 and 24 Clearances
  • Must possess and maintain valid PA drivers’ license.

 

Must be able to reach above and below the waist, walk and use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects. Requires use of both hands for repetitive motion. Able to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb and crawl. Lifts/carries supplies weighing 70lbs or more. Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. Able to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday. Ability to work alone and with little supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee will be required to be sufficiently present to perform any other position-related duties requested by the Director of Facilities and Operations or their designee.

 

 

  1. Screen, interview, and recommend custodial personnel for employment, at all levels.
  1. Responds to facility emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
  1. Supervise and evaluate custodial personnel and provide regular feedback to the Custodial Supervisor. Insure inter rater reliability amongst all supervised. Recommend discipline and termination actions.
  1. Continually monitor work quality, productivity and costs of staff to insure the most efficient use of resources.
  1. Pre-approve all custodial overtime in collaboration with Custodial Supervisor and needs for Facilities Usage.
  1. Manage and schedule all vacation requests to insure smooth operation throughout the year.
  1. Participate in the evaluation and selection of new custodial materials, methods and equipment.
  1. Create and participate in the training of all existing and new hires.
  1. Review and establish work assignments, requirements and expectations with all custodial personnel.
  1. Assist the Custodial Supervisor with the development of the annual custodial services budget as it relates to staffing, materials, equipment, training, waste stream, etc.
  1. Work cooperatively with other Assistant Custodial Supervisors to guarantee work expectations at all schools within the District are the same. Ensure resources are divided amongst all schools equally.
  1. Coordinate the support of building renovations and additions with custodial services.
  1. Work cooperatively with Building Systems, HVAC, and Grounds Departments to support the maintenance and care of the District’s buildings and grounds.
  1. Work cooperatively with the Safety and Security personnel to ensure safe buildings and campuses.
  1. Assist with compliance and training events for Right to Know (RTK).
  1. Fill in as Head Custodian as needed and assist with cleaning duties in assigned buildings.
