University Communications and Marketing tells the compelling stories of WCU faculty, students, alumni, and staff across numerous media platforms and is dedicated to promoting and strengthening WCU's image on local, regional and national levels through strategic brand development, marketing, media relations, publication design & development and social media. The Web Team assists with the technical design, production, and maintenance of WCU’s internal and external websites, SharePoint, and mobile site. The team maintains over 7,000 web pages, supports the development and maintenance of many more, and automates and streamlines manual processes by developing online forms.

Reporting to the Director of Web Communications, The SharePoint Web Specialist creates, maintains, and supports campus SharePoint including PowerApps, Power Automate, permission delegation, and site/site collection administration; helps to maintain accessibility and marketing standards on the WCU websites; and provides customer support for the campus partners including faculty, staff and students.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience maintaining SharePoint sites and using Power Apps and Power Automation; knowledge of accessibility standards; excellent customer service skills; and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse campus community while contributing to a positive and professional work environment.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Support campus community SharePoint online users 
  • Provide customer support using many mediums including training, phone calls, meetings, and screen shares
  • Translate technical issues and resolutions into client friendly, understandable terms
  • Create and maintain SharePoint sites, subsites, site collections, and permissions
  • Create and maintain Power Apps and Power Automation
  • Maintain content on the WCU public-facing website using CMS platform (Modern Campus) 
  • Maintain marketing and accessibility standards of website
  • Collaborate with members of University Communications and Marketing to update or create web content
  • Update meta data on pages for SEO initiatives
  • Remediate accessibility success criterion failures
  • Participate in staff and department meetings
  • Keep up to date with changes in SharePoint, Omni CMS, and Office 365 apps and how new features can be leveraged
  • Other duties as assigned
  • One year as an Information Technology Generalist 1, Applications Developer 1, or Network Specialist 1 OR   
  • Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field OR 
  • Four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services OR 
  • A bachelor's degree in any information technology field OR 
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of information technology concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of the component parts of personal computers, peripherals, servers, and their associated functionality
  •  Knowledge of the functions and capabilities of hardware and software
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques
  • Knowledge of the use and interpretation of diagnostic utility programs used in troubleshooting problems
  • Knowledge of networking concepts
  • Knowledge of application development concepts
  • Knowledge of database concepts
  • Knowledge of web development concepts
  • Knowledge of the principles of information technology project management.
  • Knowledge of information technology security principles, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of research principles and techniques to identify business requirements and solutions to problems 
  • Knowledge of hardware and software testing methods
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of information technology documentation
  • Knowledge of information technology systems performance monitoring techniques
  • Knowledge of information technology strategic planning concepts 
  • Ability to analyze business processes to identify functional requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret technical materials such as specifications, technical manuals, and other project documentation
  • Ability to identify correct logic relationships and statements 
  • Ability to analyze information in order to diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Customer service or help desk experience 
  • Experience maintaining SharePoint sites
  • Experience with PowerApps and Flow
  • Experience maintaining websites including SEO and accessibility standards
  • Higher Education experience

This on-campus position is eligible for limited hybrid work but is not remote.
