The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Health and Physical Education instructional methods and pedagogy. The typical workload involves teaching four (4) courses per semester. Teaching is typically in-person and may be offered in-person, online, hyflex, hybrid, and/or in the field during the day and/or evening in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department’s students. The candidate’s experience, expertise, and specialized training will serve to strengthen departments on and off campus efforts. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success. The incumbent will complete a distance education training program within the first two years of employment.

Responsibilities include:
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in the Health and Physical Education program. Additional courses within area(s) of specialization may be assigned depending on department needs
- Contribute to curriculum development
- Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications. This is necessary for tenure and promotion
- Supervise student teachers and interns
- Mentor and advise students
- Serve the College, University, and the community through participation in various committees
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A doctorate in Physical Education, Health Education, or Curriculum & Instruction, or closely related educational discipline. ABD may be considered – must be completed on or before August 2025
- At least three years teaching experience at the K-12 level
- Teaching certification (current or expired) in health and physical education
- Ability to teach Health and Physical Education content and pedagogical course
- Ability to supervise Health and Physical Education student teachers
- Record of scholarship in the Health and/or Physical Education field (traditional or applied)
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing & verbal, and present dynamically to a variety of constituents
- Experience working directly with K-12 teachers including mentoring, training, and professional development; and/or
- Experience supervising and/or mentoring student teachers; and/or
- Experience teaching undergraduate/graduate Health and Physical Education courses; and/or
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Health and Physical Education along with doctorate degree as described above; and/or
- Experience authoring and/or co-authoring grant funding; and/or
- Experience in curriculum development at the K12 or undergraduate/graduate level; and/or
- Experience assessing teacher education candidates or program for accreditation; and/or
- Experience integrating technology in teaching methods; and/or
- Membership and/or involvement with Health and Physical Education professional organizations
