ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

1. Ensure assigned areas are maintained.
2. Promote positive relationships with staff, students, and community members.
3. Communicate to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manager any changes or concerns regarding job assignment.
4. Work at assigned sites to cover duties for absent custodians or Head Custodians.
5. Adhere to established West Des Moines School District policies, procedures, and guidelines.
6. Maintain custodial storage area inventory and organization.
7. Custodial storage areas must be secured and locked throughout work shift.
8. Monitor and ensure facility security through keeping doors and windows shut and locked when appropriate.
9. Return all custodial tools and supplies to a secure custodial storage area at the end of each shift.
10. Perform cleaning functions such as trash removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and restocking supplies.
11. Assist in assigned project work, including refinishing floors and cleaning carpet.
12. Respond to requests, which may include setting up/tearing down rooms for meetings or class functions, or athletic events and moving furniture/equipment and storing deliveries.
13. Perform minor maintenance tasks.
14. Assist with the layout and lining of athletic fields.
15. Complete snow removal and lawn care duties as required.
16. Promptly report all safety hazards to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manger.
17. Participate actively in all professional development training.
18. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
19. Complete all trainings as required.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
