Job Description

Position Title: Instructional Paraprofessional

Location: Brooks Harbor Elementary

Department: Paraprofessional

Reports To: Building-level Principal/Classroom Educator

Term: 182 day/year position aligning to the academic calendar.

Schedule: Approx. 6.5 hours/day

Salary: Position follows the 2023-2024 Classified Salary Schedule

Date of last review: December 2023

SUMMARY: The Instructional Paraprofessional works under the supervision of the classroom educator to provide small group and one-on-one instruction to learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

Collaboration

  • Supports the educator to provide additional intervention for learners.
  • Provides information to learners, staff, and administration by answering questions and requests.
  • Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.

Communication:

  • Reinforces lessons presented by the educator by reviewing material(s) with learners one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Enforces school and classroom rules to help instill appropriate behaviors for learners (CHAMPS).
  • Ability to utilize technological tools to communicate and to record and report data.
  • Connects and shares ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity.

  • Understands the complexities of cultural and global issues and how they relate to employee and learners’ experiences.
  • Partners with others to resolve potential controversy and conflict through respectful discussion.

Responsibility:

  • Monitors and manages learners in class, between classes, and during recess and lunch periods.
  • Keeps appropriate confidentiality regulations in place along with an awareness of district requirements and school board policies.

  • While performing the essential responsibilities of this role, the employee will regularly be required to reach with hands and arms.
  • While performing the essential responsibilities of this role, the employee will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision and peripheral vision.
  • While performing the essential responsibilities of this role, the employee may regularly be required to climb a stepladder and push/pull a heavy cart.
  • While performing the essential responsibilities of this role, the employee will regularly be required to lift up to ~25 pounds.
  • The employee may be required to assist in behavioral management of students.

Education And/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Prior experience working with elementary school-age learners preferred.
  • General computer skills.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.
