JOB SUMMARY

Coordinate and facilitate database monitoring and support of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR); setup and maintenance of EMR Interfaces, Crystal Report generation for Audits and EMR Database reports; troubleshoot and assist vendor with EMR technical issues; assist in the development and support of EMR software working directly with the MCC EMR team and vendor to facilitate all projects.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the technical support and maintenance of the EMR.
  • Understand the setup and structure of the EMR to include knowledge of configuration and how it affects the system and users. Excellent communication through proper channels is required for all changes that affect or could affect end users.
  • Serve as liaison for MCC with vendor regarding all EMR technical issues for the following groups: EMR team, physicians, and clinical/operational staff.
  • Work with outside vendors to coordinate, implement and support interfaces related to the EMR to include but not limited to demographics, scheduling, lab results, radiology results and transcription.
  • Coordinate input from other senior level departmental managers regarding steps necessary to implement, maintain and continuously monitor all EMR and related product processes.
  • Retrieve EMR data metrics through utilization of report writer programs and other data retrieval methods as requested. Provide feedback to identified parties regarding the data conclusions, along with recommendations on opportunities to improve data timeliness and accuracy.
  • Make complex ideas or situations clear, simple, and/or understandable. Assemble ideas, issues, and observations into a clear and useful explanation. 
  • Serve as the primary coordinator of system upgrades for the EMR, to include working with other IT personnel regarding both hardware and software workstation requirements at both the Server and Client levels.
  • Plan and implement steps required for major and minor upgrades and patches coordinating all efforts with vendor and staff to ensure proper communication and planning is observed.
  • Communicate with Senior leadership regarding any downtime necessity and coordinate such planned downtime once approved.
  • Attend and participate in all EMR related team meetings including any sub committees as defined during the initial projects and after implementation.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge base through professional growth and self-development.
  • Other special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-year Computer Science degree required.
  • Two years healthcare experience or related hands-on experience in a network-wide Electronic Health Record environment preferred.

  • PC literate in windows environment; ability to use a variety of software applications to include but not necessarily limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook Express and the Internet. 
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within clinical field.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours when required. 
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials. 
  • Ability to operate telephone, printer, copier, calculator, and fax machine. 
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports. 
  • Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication. 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds with diplomacy.
  • Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of referral sources. 
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively within a team environment as well as independently.

  • Possess good organizational skills and the ability to adapt to frequent changes.
  • Ability to use personal transportation on a periodic basis; maintain appropriate level of personal automobile liability coverage as required under MCC’s vehicle Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Ability to stay overnight, perhaps for many consecutive nights, when attending training opportunities or provide training to customers located out of the local area. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally)
  • Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
  • Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
  • Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit continuously during a minimum 8-hour workday, with one hour for lunch.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposed to frequent and constant interruptions in daily functions/schedule. 
  • Must be available to customers and staff throughout the day. 
  • May be required to work extended hours to meet department needs.
