JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for performing GI nursing duties accurately and efficiently according to established policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtain a thorough medical history through interview of patient / family members with pertinent information documented and communicated to the physician* of record.
- Recognize health threatening changes in vital signs, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies, and respond appropriately including documentation and notification of physician* of record.
- Detect early signs and symptoms of post-operative complications and report observations promptly to physician* of record and documents accordingly.
- Carry out physician orders accurately and questions unclear orders.
- Administer medications and parenteral therapy according to ASC Nursing policies.
- Initiate and carry out appropriate emergency procedures with proper documentation.
- Initiate nurse-physician communication as appropriate
- Maintain a clean, safe, and quiet environment for patients as well as other personnel.
- Provide pre-operative, post-operative teaching to patient, family / significant other with proper documentation.
- Participate in reviewing and revising quality assurance criteria and / or standards of care.
- Serve as a preceptor in orientation of new employees.
- Assist in maintenance, care, and cleanliness of supplies / equipment. Cost effectively maintains adequate supplies and equipment in appropriate working condition with proper documentation.
- Report damaged instruments to GI Charge Nurse.
- Assist in developing and implementing of ASC goals.
- Assist with the change process involved with the implementation of new forms within the department.
- Accept the responsibility when designated as Charge Nurse.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse (RN) and maintain licensure prior to hire and/or transfer and throughout employment in an RN position.
- Must hold and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification throughout employment in this position.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a GI setting performing GI procedures.
