JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Radiology Supervisor, operates a magnetic resonance scanner to provide diagnostic quality exams for the purpose of diagnosing medical problems for the benefit of the referring physicians and their patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participates in the preparation and handling of all MRI patients, including screening and the scheduling of patients when necessary. Reviews patient charts and history. Properly positions and transfers patients. Able to aid patients on and off table, patient table weight limit is 350lbs.
• Able to lift MRI coils on and off table. Average weight of coils 5-15 lbs.
• Assures proper operation of equipment within specified safety requirements and reports any needed repairs to Radiology Supervisor and/or GE.
• Selects proper technical factors on equipment on an individual patient and exam basis.
• Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors and staff. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards.
• Has full working knowledge of the MRI scanner, contrast injector, PACS system and MCC EMR and practice management systems.
• Displays proficiency in venipuncture and administration of contrast materials. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.
• Maintains patient records as required per departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the Imaging department.
• Assists Radiology Supervisor in the maintenance of prescribed standards and quality control programs.
• Assists in the maintenance of and adherence to an inventory management program.
• Must maintain self-responsibility for licensure and accrual of necessary continuing education requirements.
• Maintains OSHA safety standards.
• Replenishes supplies when appropriate. Assures supplies are viable, rotates stock and either alerts supervisor when supplies are needed or if authorized orders supplies.
• Produces accurate work consistent with approved policies and procedures.
• Is responsible for policy/procedure changes as indicated in procedure manuals and meeting minutes. Reviews policy and procedure manuals annually.
• Maintains instruments and equipment according to established protocol (i.e., adjust, clean, replace). Adheres to a Preventative Maintenance program for instruments and equipment, as well as a log system for documentation. Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions; identifies the need for and utilizes external services.
• Assists in research, development and implementation of new procedures and changes to existing procedures.
• Constantly re-evaluates and streamlines work flow.
• Trains other personnel when applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned accurately and willingly.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• ARRT certification, graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology.
• Must hold and maintain a State of Florida license throughout employment in this position.
• Must hold and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in radiology field; 2-3 years MRI experience preferred.

• Follow MRI protocols established by the contracted Radiology group.
• Displays computer proficiency (i.e. PC windows and MS Office environment) and ability to quickly learn new applications.
• Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication.
• Must be able to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
• Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Light (exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally)
• Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
• Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time
• Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
• Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
• Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Exposed to frequent and constant interruptions in daily functions/schedule.
• Must be available to customers and staff throughout the day.
• Required to work extended hours to meet department needs.
• Clinical back office environment
