JOB SUMMARY
The Optometrist provides general optometry care. Performs consultations as well as medical evaluations and comprehensive evaluations of patient. Provides both pre- and post-operative optometric care to patients. Diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the eye and visual system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide full scope medical and refractive eye services directly to patients.
- Maintain a full patient schedule of comprehensive and follow up exams.
- Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities.
- Perform vision tests, analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
- Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
- Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit.
- Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
- Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.
- Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
- Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness and eye diseases, such as glaucoma.
- Promote eye health by counseling patients, including explaining how to clean and wear contact lenses.
- Works with support staff in providing exam reports back to referring and/or Primary Care Physician.
- Works with and guides technician(s) to assist in providing eye exam services.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- The Optometrist must be licensed to practice optometry in the State of Florida prior to hire and/or transfer into an Optometrist position. Must hold and maintain licensure throughout employment in this position.
- Must at all times remain in good standing with all licensure authorities.
- EHR experience is required.

- Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally)
- Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
- Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time
- Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
- Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
- Must be mobile and able work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time during an 8-hour period/workday.

- Clinical back office environment
- Exposed to frequent and constant interruptions in daily functions/schedule.
