Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for coordinating patient care prior to and during the pain management procedures at the ASC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtains a thorough medical history through interview of patient / family members with pertinent information documented and communicated to the physician
of record.
Recognizes health threatening changes in vital signs, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies, and responds appropriately to include documentation of changes and notification of physician
of record.
Detects early signs and symptoms of pre-operative complications and reports observations promptly to physician
of record and documents accordingly.
Carries out physician
orders accurately and questions unclear orders.
Prepares consent form according to physician orders, explains consent to patient, allows patient the opportunity to read over the consent and have questions answered by the appropriate party. Ensures the consent is signed prior to procedure being performed.
Participates in all time-out procedures prior to the beginning of each pain management procedure.
Administers medications according to ASC policy.
Monitors patient undergoing pain management procedure to ensure vital signs remain stable and reports any abnormal activity to the physician of record.
Maintains a safe and quiet environment for the patients and clinical staff.
Provides instructions to patients, family members and significant others as appropriate.
Accompanies patient to PACU area and provides appropriate communication to PACU staff regarding status of patient.
Assists in the expedient turnover of procedure room when available.
Documents the specifics of performance during codes and coveys this information to the OR Charge Nurse.
Documents information regarding patient's progress before and during the procedure in a clear, concise and accurate manner in the ASC electronic medical record.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of Registered Nursing program, with an Associate's degree.
Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse (RN) and maintain licensure prior to hire and / or transfer and throughout employment in an RN position.
Must hold and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification, prior to hire and / or transfer and throughout employment in this position.
