What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boiler/Kiln Supervisor position at West Fraser?
The Boiler/Kiln Supervisor will be responsible for all functions in the Boiler and Kiln department including safe work practices and procedures, stacking/loading/drying quality, drying practices and kiln schedules, operator scheduling, and coverage.
What you will do:
- Conduct comprehensive system inspection to identify areas of concern and opportunity
- Work with operations to complete detailed safe work procedures
- Monitor and advise on regulations associated with safety and environmental systems
- Ensure that thermal units are tuned for optimum efficiency and lowest potential emissions
- Develop and maintain all process documentation related to our thermal energy and lumber drying systems
- Ensure appropriate records are maintained for the Kiln and boiler
- Kiln Department leader
- Ensure proper inventory management
- Daily quality audits
- Feedback and communication with stacker department
- Yard inspections
- Work practice audits and standardization
- Quality testing
- Interface with leadership and kiln operators
- Maintenance assignments and planning
- Preventative maintenance checks and routines
- Determine and manage critical spare parts inventory, boiler chemical inventory, and Rough lumber inventory
- Train & Certify forklift operators
Skills You will need for Success:
- At least 1-2 years of Boiler management experience
- Excellent team-building and motivational skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good computer skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Experience and Skills that will make you stand out:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or similar preferred.
- Sawmill or other wood products industry experience.
