About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and safety-focused Forklift Operator to join our Kiln Department at West Fraser in Maplesville, Alabama. This is a full-time opportunity that requires excellent teamwork skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate kilns safely, adhering to all safety procedures and rules, including SWP's, ZES, Hazard Communication, and general safety rules.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team by participating in meetings, asking questions, and listening actively to contributions from colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records of kiln drying operations.
- Load and unload kilns using a forklift, ensuring efficient and safe execution of tasks.
- Assist with the greasing of kiln motors and cars, and check kiln fans for rotation.
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in operating computer systems at kilns, making adjustments to drying schedules as needed.
- Perform daily moisture checks and document any issues or concerns.
- Provide support to electrical and mechanical personnel with work-related tasks in the kiln area.
- Document problems and communicate with maintenance personnel daily.
- Demonstrate initiative and innovation by developing new ideas and implementing solutions to improve processes.
- Operate boiler equipment safely and become knowledgeable about boiler controls and their purpose.
- Learn and demonstrate emergency operating and shutdown procedures.
- Perform Basic Care routes, including inspection, cleaning, and adjustment of process equipment.
- Making repairs to equipment prior to failure results in improved process availability and reduced repair cost.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work in a hot, cold, dusty, and noisy industrial environment.
- Physical stamina to bend, twist, lift, climb, and stand throughout the shift.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Minimum six (6) months experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
