What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Technician position at West Fraser?
What you will do :
Safe operation of fork trucks.
Extensive knowledge of approved mill travel routes for Shipping and Production.
Compliance with all mill Safety Policies.
Communicate warehouse issues to Shipping Supervisor for correction.
Safety Behavioral Observations of non-company truck drivers and occupants.
Communicate with non-company truck drivers about mill Safety Policies for corrected behavior when necessary.
Simple Finished Goods Quality Packaging Inspection prior to loading.
Isolate non-conforming finished goods for rework.
Accurate scanning of finished goods using a handheld scanner to a Bill of Lading or Pick List.
Grouping of “like” finished goods in a bay to make room in warehouse.
Accurate unit identification.
Initial all inbound sheets and bill of ladings of accurate number of units loaded and recordkeeping
Execute proper pattern loading for flatbed trailers, vans and railcars with approved packaging as required by mill loading standard.
Work safely and effectively in a team environment
Involvement in ongoing process improvement in the work area
Complete shift paperwork and recordkeeping
Attend team meetings and regular training sessions
Complete required Safety Training on time.

Education and Experience you will need :
Eligible to legally work in the United States
High School diploma or equivalent education
1 year experience loading trucks and / or railcars is required
Experience working in the warehouse or stores helpful
Willing and able to work rotating schedule which will include weekends and holidays
Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team
Willingness and ability to cross-train to learn new jobs and skills
Consistent, predictable attendance

Ability to enhance or improve processes and procedures
Computer Hardware Knowledge or can be trained.
Computer Software Knowledge of Bar-coding Applications or can be trained.
Self-Starter with Continuous Improvement Vision

Humility to ask for help when needed instead of stagnating
Ability to work independently.
