Science Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a K-12 education system preferred
- Valid Iowa teaching license and endorsement as required by the state
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents

- May assist in directing the work of paraprofessionals in the classroom
JOB GOAL(S):
All Iowa City Community School District teachers are responsible for meeting the academic, physical, and socio-emotional needs of their students, in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Utilization of developmentally appropriate practices is an expectation. The teacher will create an environment that facilitates learning, personal growth and care and is expected to establish positive working relationships with all staff members as well as parents.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement daily and long-range lesson plans that align with state standards in whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to the needs of each child.
- Teach the district approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes learning and encourages student participation
- Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs
- Evaluate children’s intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records and assist in preparing progress reports.
- Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child’s development and interpret the school program.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
- Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.
- Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
