Millard West High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Varsity/JV Assistant Basketball Coach to join our athletic program. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Coach to support the development of our varsity basketball team, fostering a culture of teamwork, discipline, and excellence both on and off the court. This position is ideal for an individual passionate about coaching young athletes and contributing to a competitive high school basketball program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, drills, and conditioning sessions to enhance player skills and team performance.
- Provide individualized instruction and feedback to student-athletes to improve technique, strategy, and basketball IQ.
- Help develop game plans and strategies, and assist with in-game coaching and decision-making.
- Promote a positive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, accountability, and academic success.
- Support the Head Coach in scouting opponents and preparing the team for competitions.
- Ensure player safety by enforcing proper training techniques and adhering to school and district policies.
- Participate in team meetings, film analysis, and other program-related activities as needed.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to student-athletes, encouraging personal growth and leadership.
Qualifications:
- Previous coaching experience at the high school or club level preferred; playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and current coaching techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with student-athletes, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other members of the coaching staff.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture.
- Availability for practices (typically after school hours), games (evenings and weekends), and other team events.
