Summary
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, the supplemental instruction leader provides in-classroom assistance to students including supplemental instruction outside of the classroom.

The supplemental instruction leader will assist in the academic assistance program meant to improve students' academic performance and increase retention. These sessions will allow the supplemental instruction leader to facilitate a peer to peer learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend all class meetings of the assigned course, take notes, complete assignments and read all assigned materials including textbook and supplemental reading.
- Conduct, at a minimal, three to five (50) minute study sessions per week throughout the term using strategies learned through the supplemental instruction leader training workshop.
- Work with the supplemental instruction supervisor/coordinator in scheduling of supplemental instruction sessions.
- Meet regularly with supplemental instruction supervisor/coordinator for debrief sessions.
- Report learning outcomes to supervisor on a regular basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supplemental instruction supervisor/coordinator.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
This position will require the incumbent to have knowledge of content of assigned subject. Knowledge and skill to create session handouts. In-depth knowledge of office management techniques including scheduling and customer service. Requires a working knowledge of learning styles. Requires in-depth knowledge of tutorial and instructional techniques. Requires a working knowledge of computer-aided instructional techniques and software applications. Requires a working knowledge in the use of common personal computer-based office productivity software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and intranet. Requires knowledge of and skill in using proper English grammar, vocabulary, syntax, spelling and punctuation. Requires sufficient human relation skills to convey technical concepts to others and to facilitate a small group learning process.
Abilities
This position will require the incumbent to have the ability to plan supplemental instruction sessions and use a variety of learning strategies. Ability to assist supplemental instruction supervisor/coordinator in training other leaders. Ability to provide extra supplemental instruction sessions and/or marathon sessions as necessary (e.g. prior to exams). Ability to maintain contact through the term with the course instructor. Ability to meet with other campus supplemental instruction leaders and supervisors for scheduled meetings.
Physical Abilities
The position incumbent must be able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials. Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone. Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files. Requires manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device and keyboard to operate microcomputer and other standardized office equipment, almost constantly requiring repetitive motions.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED. Must have an overall GPA of 2.7 or above. Completion of the selected course with a grade of "B" or above.
Licenses and Certificates
Driver's license is required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors where some safety considerations are minimal.
