Adult Education Instructor - ESL and GED
Temporary, Part-time Position up to 12 hours per week
West Kern Adult Education is seeking a pool of qualified candidates with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of staff to provide high quality programs and services for our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate. We are seeking lecturers who have the ability to teach in the following areas for inclusion in a pool.
E.S.L. (English as a Second Language) / Citizenship (E.S.L. Civics) /
G.E.D. Preparation / A.B.E. (Adult Basic Education – Literacy)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Candidates with availability to work day and/or evening hours at West Kern Adult Education class locations in Western Kern County.
The instructor will be responsible for:
- Instructing students, developing program syllabi, goals and objectives.
- Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives;
- Ensuring student learning outcomes are attained and appropriately recorded.
- Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate.
- Preparing and maintaining required documentation and administrative reports.
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom.
- Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss instructional programs and other issues affecting the progress of students and their outcomes.
- Duties may require a flexible schedule of lecture, and the Instructor must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days between campus locations.
- Supervising Instructional Aides including training aides in classroom procedure; assigning tasks and regular evaluations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field.
- One year of full-time (or equivalent), paid teaching experience.
- Excellent human-relations, interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, and evaluation.
- Ability to work with all levels of management.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of adult education students.
- Bilingual: Spanish/English (Desirable)

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field.
- Three years of full-time, paid teaching experience.

Salary/Benefits
- Salary: $45.00 per hour. Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
