Position Summary
We are seeking dedicated Special Education Assistants for the summer of 2025 to support the instructional and behavioral needs of students. The Special Education Assistant will play a crucial role in helping students thrive in an inclusive environment through tailored support and instructional assistance. The day-to-day responsibilities of the Special Education Assistant will vary based on the needs of the day, but the general responsibilities are:
Instructional support: Assisting with the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management
Student care: Helping with the physical, emotional, and safety needs of students. Depending on student needs, the Special Education Assistant may be assigned as a direct 1:1 with a student to help them navigate transitions, work on engaging in social interactions, work on self-management and advocacy, and help them to engage positively in the community.
Classroom activities: Helping with daily classroom activities
Program and tutoring: Carrying out programs and tutoring activities created by the teacher
Instructional materials: Helping prepare instructional materials
Behavior support: Assisting the teacher with behavior supports
Learning difficulties: Observing learning difficulties and reporting to the teacher
Student progress: Assisting the teacher in recording student progress
Small group learning: Reinforcing small group learning while the teacher works with other students
Qualifications
Experience working within special education or experience working with children with special education needs.
Strong communication and behavior management skills.
Preference given to experienced paraprofessionals.
