As a Diesel Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our fleet, ensuring safety and efficiency for our customers. Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair brake, air systems, electrical, HVAC, drive train and transmission, engine and exhaust, suspension, and steering issues.
- Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement of services.
- Receive annual training from Navistar & Cummins to stay updated with industry standards.
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, adhering to dealership and factory standards.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain necessary parts.
- Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicate with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles when required to ensure quality of work.
- Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor promptly.
- Ensure that vehicles are kept clean and notify service advisor immediately of any changes to the vehicle's appearance or condition.
- Maintain a neat and clean shop area.
- Be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as when received.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner and report any safety issues immediately to management.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel technology or a related field.
- Must obtain and maintain State of Michigan HDT repair certifications.
- ASE certification preferred but not required.
