What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Strat I or II position at West Monona Elementary School?
West Monona Elementary School is in search of an Elementary Special Education: Strategist I or Strategist II with an emphasis in behavior preferred but not required. The candidate must have effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. They must possess an understanding of the learning process and specific knowledge of the unique physical, social, emotional, and academic development of grade level students. The candidate must demonstrate effective classroom management skills through building positive and strong relationships with students and families. The candidate must be able to differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the needs of all learners. Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children’s academic needs. The special education teacher is a partner with the guardian and support team in developing implementing and monitoring the student Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Education and Related Experience:
- Appropriate Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Iowa teaching license or ability to obtain required certification or Class B license by the district’s starting date for the school year

- Demonstrates competence in classroom management
- Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families, students, and colleagues
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
- Work in a collaborative team to plan and prepare instruction
- Engage in professional growth at both the building and district level
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in classroom
- Work collaboratively with grade level, subject area, and building teachers to enhance learning opportunities for all students
- Utilize and develop curriculum and essential standards to meet student learning goals and instructional activities
- Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff
- Prepare and plan engaging lessons and deliver the lessons with fidelity
- Create a positive educational learning environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
