West Monona High School is in search of an Industrial Technology classroom teacher for the fall of 2024-2025. The candidate must have effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. To provide a comprehensive, action-based educational program concerned with industry, its organization, personnel, systems techniques, resources and products, and their social/cultural impact. The candidate must demonstrate effective classroom management skills through building positive and strong relationships with students and families. The candidate must be able to differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the needs of all learners.
West Monona is located in Onawa, Iowa (pop. 2,900) along the I29 corridor between the Missouri River and scenic Loess Hills. We enjoy the benefits of small town living, yet are located in close proximity to the Sioux City Metropolitan Area (35 minutes away) and the Council Bluffs/Omaha Metro (60 minutes away).
Onawa offers a wide range of amenities including museums, city parks, golf course, hospital, court house, race track, swimming pool, movie theater, stores, restaurants, pharmacy, library, motel and casino.
Monona County offers recreational opportunities in the form of 16 individual parks, natural areas, preserves and water recreation accesses encompassing some 900 acres across the county. Within Monona County the State of Iowa manages an additional 5, 195 acres in Lewis and Clark State Park, Preparation Canyon State Park, and the Loess Hills State Forest.
Education and Related Experience:
- Appropriate Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Iowa teaching license or ability to obtain required certification or Class B license by the district’s starting date for the school year (Endorsement 5-12 Industrial Technology – 140)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in classroom
- Work collaboratively with grade level, subject area, and building teachers to enhance learning opportunities for all students
- Utilize and develop curriculum and essential standards to meet student learning goals and instructional activities
- Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff
- Prepare and plan engaging lessons and deliver the lessons with fidelity
- Create a positive educational learning environment
- Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in auto mechanics, drafting, electricity, electronics, metals, machine shop, graphic arts, woodworking, power mechanics, plastics, or general shop
- Instructs in use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment
- Maintains control of storage, and use of school-owned property. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to tolls and equipment as required
