West Nottingham Academy (WNA) is seeking a proven fundraiser and leader to serve as the next Director of Advancement. The Director of Advancement reports to the Head of School and, as a member of the leadership team, directs the organization’s fundraising and public engagement efforts. With a primary focus on donor strategy, the Director of Advancement has overall responsibility for the areas of Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Major Gifts, and Development Services.

As the chief fundraiser for WNA, the Director of Advancement spends considerable time visiting with and stewarding donors, partners, and prospects in order to secure major and transformational gifts for our school. When strategically necessary, the Director of Advancement works with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to cultivate and request major contributions and support from individuals.

The Director of Advancement collaborates with the Board of Trustees and works closely with the leadership team to set and achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals, measuring progress throughout the year to ensure success.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Works with the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and staff to develop long- and short-term fundraising strategies.
  • Develops and manages a fundraising program designed to generate maximum monetary support possible to WNA through the management of fundraising campaigns, including : an annual fund, major giving, capital campaign, and special events.
  • Prepares annual Development plan to corresponding budget outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces monthly reports.
  • Leads the strategy, planning, and solicitation efforts for fundraising campaigns with the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, volunteers, and donors.
  • Heads up all major gift solicitations, making an average of 40 personal solicitations a year. Creates and manages strategies and activities aimed at enhancing donor relationships, including the writing of proposals for individuals and granting organizations.
  • Facilitates relationships between major gift prospects and the Head of School, faculty, and key volunteer leaders. Comfortable making 6-7 figure solicitations.
  • Identifies and qualifies additional prospects working independently.
  • Manages the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a specific portfolio of major gift prospects, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Proven ability in annual fund development including the writing of solicitation letters and input on the design of high-quality appeals. Supervising and implementing systematic efforts to identify, solicit, steward, maintain, and upgrade annual giving donors.
  • Qualifications :

  • Proven track record of raising funds from individuals and foundations in educational institutions. Minimum of 5 years of Development experience with an emphasis on individual giving.
  • Planned giving experience.
  • Excellent understanding of principles and techniques of Development activities, including annual giving, major giving, planned giving, event planning, capital campaigns, marketing and communications, and grant procurement.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for prospects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, negotiations, and effective communication with diverse audiences, including the ability to speak persuasively about WNA.
  • Experience using Raisers Edge.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial approach, including solutions to complex issues. Exercise good judgment and decision making. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to reason, think creatively, and problem solve.
  • Position requires absolute confidentiality and professionalism in appearance, attitude, and presentation.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work productively and meet benchmarks and goals timely and without day-to-day supervision.
  • Ability to lead multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines; ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work; ability to work unsupervised and make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively, and creatively.
  • International fundraising is preferred.
  • Experience with independent schools is preferred.
