Position Overview:
West Penn Energy Services is seeking a reliable and skilled CDL Class A Driver to operate Lowboy trailers and transport oversized and overweight loads safely and efficiently to various destinations. This position requires a strong orientation toward supporting field operations for pipeline construction projects. Flexibility is essential, as the schedule may include evenings, weekends, and overnight stays for larger projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a Lowboy tractor-trailer to transport heavy equipment and materials to and from job sites.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safety and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Secure loads using chains, straps, tarps, and other securing devices to prevent shifting during transit.
- Plan and follow efficient routes, considering road restrictions, permits, and oversize load regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and field personnel to coordinate delivery times and locations.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, expense reports, and load documentation.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance, such as checking fluids, tires, and lights, and report any mechanical issues.
- Safely operate equipment in construction environments with limited access.
Essential Job Functions:
- Bending, Twisting, and Turning: Regularly required for inspecting equipment, securing loads, and performing manual tasks.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, including securing materials on trailers.
- Climbing and Working at Heights: Climb onto trailers and loads to secure items, maintaining balance in various conditions.
- Prolonged Sitting and Driving: Extended driving periods with sustained focus for up to 11 hours within DOT guidelines.
- Environmental Conditions: Work outdoors in varying weather, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Physical Endurance: Manage the physical demands of securing loads, climbing, and handling heavy equipment.
Qualifications:
- CDL License: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience operating Lowboy trailers or transporting oversized/overweight loads preferred.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations, including oversize/overweight load requirements and permits.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in load securing and tie-down techniques.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read maps, navigate routes, and understand road restrictions for oversized loads.
Work Schedule:
- Requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and overnight trips as needed for larger projects or long-distance hauls.
