Transportation Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY
WPACES is seeking a high energy, experienced coordinator to join our professional community and oversee student transportation services and related activities. This individual must have the ability to schedule and maintain routes, calendar school-related events, dismissals and arrival times, and maintain accurate students records to assure services are provided in accordance with their transportation needs. The Transportation Coordinator is also responsible for identifying the best route or location, and any necessary services a student may need to travel on the school bus. Additionally, this individual must create systems to retain and report transportation data. Transportation data includes, but is not limited to, student counts and demographics, schedules, vehicle maintenance, maps, routes, and incident reports related to activities on the bus and bus(es) functionality for city and state compliance and reporting.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and direct the day-to-day operations and activities of the transportation department (e.g. dispatching, bus routes, schedule route changes, transportation needs for special education students.) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient student transportation to and from school, clubs and extracurricular events, and field trips.
- Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written references, and/or conveying information.
- Making sure that all vehicles comply with transportation laws and regulations ensuring that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition by managing repair and maintenance schedules.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned driving staff, and document employee performance.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records related to vehicles and drivers and document all transportation activities in a database.
- Advise on road conditions for decisions on school closing during inclement weather.
- Communicate with parents, school staff and administration, and related transportation services to streamline and resolve any issues, document all incidents and communications.
- Coordinates with district personnel for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services.
- Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff, parents, students, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties.
- Investigate complaints and incidents of inappropriate behavior by transportation staff or students on a bus and maintain a detailed log of transportation complaints.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A certification or Associate degree in transportation, or the equivalent in experience of 5 years driving, logistics, or related field
- Class B CDL with passenger, air brakes and school bus endorsements
- Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations
- Must be able to obtain or currently have all background clearances (Federal, PA State, & Child Abuse)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience with transportation-related software and systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience in transportation management or related field
