West Plains Engineering, Inc. is actively hiring a Mechanical Department Head to join its team at the Cedar Rapids, IA office. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a talented team, drive innovative mechanical designs, and manage high-impact projects across a wide range of industries.
The Mechanical Department Head will report to the Office Manager and often collaborate with Project Mangers to oversee and mentor the Mechanical Design Staff within a specific office or division. This role involves oversite and design of all aspects of the HVAC, Plumbing, and in some cases the Fire Protection systems for the project. Responsibilities also include overseeing scheduling, project assignments, and cross-training of staff, while providing guidance across all phases of design and construction.
This role requires strong leadership, from performing heating/cooling load analysis to acting as the primary point of contact with clients and stakeholders. The Mechanical Department Head must be organized, focused, and motivated to guide a team while ensuring the success of projects of varying size and complexity.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Registration as a Professional Engineer
- 10 years of related experience
- Previous leadership experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the mechanical building systems
