West Plains LLC is a part of BioUrja Group, and we are an agricultural commodity trading business specializing in warehouse operation, risk management, and transportation with a focus on creating value for the company’s producers and consumers. Our customers depend on us to provide market insight, risk management, and logistics support. We are federally licensed and bonded warehousemen that trade whole grains, feed ingredients, freight, and other commodities within North America. We are headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska and have twenty-five locations spread across six states. The company controls nearly 20 million bushels of elevator space through ownership or lease agreements.
We are looking for a Scale Operator based out of our Gering, NE location. This role will also support the accounting teams in coordinating, organizing, and tracking the physical movements of agricultural commodities. This includes verifying, processing, filing physical and electronic documents, and providing customer service related to commercial contracts made by traders to grow and enhance West Plains’ Grain and Feed Business.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for weighing and ticketing all inbound and outbound trucks.
- Operate grain scale.
- Probing and grading grain, according to WP policies & procedures
- Work with and communicate with Elevator Supervisor and VP of Operations
- Maintain a friendly atmosphere and provide a high level of customer service to external and internal customers/grain haulers.
- Adhere to all safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Safe work practices are a condition of employment. Report any safety issue(s) or problem(s) to your supervisor and safety coordinator immediately.
- Focus on continuous improvement in all aspects of the job.
- Maintain a team environment with all other plant departments.
- Actively promote WP’s vision, mission, and values with employees, outside vendors, and customers
- Be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work.
- Be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.

- Overtime and weekends possible during the harvest seasons.

Job Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office / Google Docs.
- Ability to work independently and stay on task in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred two years of experience in Agricultural commodities business and/or a customer service position.
