Purpose:
The Worship Leader is responsible for leading the congregation in meaningful and engaging worship experiences that honor God and align with the theological and musical traditions of West Point Baptist Church. This individual will work closely with the Pastor and other church staff to plan, organize, and execute all aspects of the church's worship ministry. The Worship Leader will foster a spirit of worship within the congregation and nurture the spiritual growth of the worship team. This role requires a spiritually mature individual with a passion for worship, musical proficiency, strong leadership skills, and a heart for servicing a local church.
Responsibilities:
Worship Planning and Leadership:
- Collaborate with the Pastor in the planning and development of weekly worship services, ensuring that music, and other elements support the sermon theme and overall vision of the church.
- Select and arrange music that is theologically sound, musically appropriate for the congregation, and reflects a variety of styles suitable for Southern Baptist worship (which may include traditional hymns, contemporary Christian music, and blended styles).
- Lead and facilitate weekly rehearsals for musicians, vocalists, and other worship team members.
- Lead the congregation in musical worship during Sunday services and other church gatherings (e.g Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve services).
- Coordinate with other ministry leaders to incorporate music and worship into various church events.
- Stay informed about current trends in worship music and resources while maintaining a commitment to the church's theological and musical philosophy.
- Collaborate with the Children & Youth director to plan, implement, and develop engaging and age-appropriate programs, activities, and curriculum that foster spiritual growth, learning, and community among children and youth (at a minimum quarterly).
Team Development and Leadership:
- Develop and maintain a schedule for worship team members.
- Provide spiritual guidance, encouragement, and mentorship to the worship team.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and Christ-centered environment within the worship ministry.
- Conduct regular team meetings for planning, training, and spiritual growth.
- Identify, develop and encourage new potential members within the worship ministry.
Technical and Administrative Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the church's music library (sheet music, chord charts, recordings).
- Coordinate with the church office regarding copyright compliance (e.g., CCLI licensing).
- Develop and manage the worship ministry budget in consultation with church leadership.
- Arrange for necessary equipment maintenance and repairs with the appropriate committee.
- Collaborate with technical volunteers/staff responsible for live streaming or recording of services.
Congregational Engagement:
- Communicate effectively with the congregation regarding worship service plans and opportunities to participate.
- Be sensitive to the diverse musical preferences and spiritual needs of the congregation.
- Potentially lead or participate in special music events or concerts.
Qualifications:
- A mature and growing Christian faith consistent with the beliefs and practices of the 2000 Baptist faith & message of Southern Baptist Convention.
- Demonstrated experience in leading congregational worship in a church setting.
- Strong vocal skills and preferred instrumental skills.
- Ability to read music.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, and volunteers.
- Organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage schedules and budgets.
- Basic understanding of sound and media technology used in worship.
- A heart for serving God and the church through music ministry.
- Commitment to the mission and vision of West Point Baptist Church.
