Teacher Assistant (173 Days)

Under the general guidance of the Kindergarten Teacher, our Teacher Assistant (TA) provides support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. The successful candidate must enjoy working with children and be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment.
West Ridge Academy is a K-8 Core Knowledge Charter School. We are a tuition-free open enrollment charter located in Greeley, CO. We feature small classrooms (capped at 28) where we teach character education through our eight Pillars of Virtue.

Essential Functions:
The Teacher Assistant is a compassionate and self-motivated individual with a specific interest in education. In this position, you will be responsible for supervising students, conducting small group lessons, preparing lesson material, and maintaining classroom organization.:
- Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in a small group setting.
- Work with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule.
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
- Help ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.
- Provides coverage in the absence of the classroom teacher.
- Assist with student supervision including in-between classes, during lunch, recess duty and on-field excursions.
- Collaborate with lead teachers to recognize the issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
- Comply with state, school, and class rules and regulations.
- Science of Reading training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills: Teacher assistants interact with many others besides students, including parents, teachers, and administrators. It's important to be able to handle and maintain good working relationships on an ongoing basis.
- Patience: Teacher assistants must be able to remain patient with each student, regardless of the child's varying abilities and background.
- Resourcefulness: Teacher assistants need an abundance of resourcefulness and creativity to explain lessons in a manner that is customized to each student's ability to absorb information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Willingness to assume positive intent and discuss issues with parties involved.
Qualifications Profile
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Possess or ability to obtain a Substitute Teacher License.
- First Aid & CPR, CPI Certification
- Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple teams.
- Must have a compassionate and positive attitude.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities.
