Job Description Summary
Assists the teacher in providing a nurturing, safe, consistent learning environment to enhance the skills of every child. Assist with the preparation of materials for daily activities and adhere to the cleaning and sanitizing requirements to ensure a clean working and learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Adapt to the social, emotional, physical and cognitive developmental needs of each child. Assure the developmental progression of all children.
- Contributes to documenting observations, gathering and organizing portfolio work samples, completing assessments, planning weekly lesson plans, etc.
- Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the classroom to ensure the safety and mobility of each child.
- Assist with implementing curriculum to meet the required Head Start Performance Standards.
- Be a good role model and build positive, professional relations with the children and families.
- Understand and promote school readiness for children.
- Assist in the active supervision of children to ensure safety at all times.
- Be able to quickly adjust to changing work environments and take on a more leadership role when the teacher is absent.
- Promote parent involvement in the program.
Pay depends on your level of education.
- Teacher Assistant I ($17.50/hour): At minimum have a high school diploma or GED and enroll in Child Development credential (CDA) program to be completed within two years of being hired; or already enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years of being hired. Head Start covers the cost of obtaining your CDA.
- Teacher Assistant II ($18.60/hour): A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Teacher Assistant III ($20.33/hour): An associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
