Excellence in Practice:
- Completes assignments timely and accurately
- Understand and follow physician orders
- Proper documentation (not all inclusive):med administration, patient and family education
- Understands staffing mix and appropriately makes assignments
- Safely administers medications, emergency basis as ordered by physician. Demonstrates knowledge of purpose, med dosage, calculation of dosage,and expected and adverse reactions
- Effective communication skills:supervision of LPN/Surgical Tech – appropriately informs nursing staff and physicians pertinent changes in patient condition – clear and concise report – follow chain of command
- Critical thinking skills:recognize change in patient’s condition and takes appropriate action; able to prioritize and multitask; is flexible to both patient and department needs with no interference to patient care
- Establishes proper identification and verifies surgical procedure with patient or family member.Determines appropriate and safe method of transportation and provide emotional needs during transfer
- Shows competency in:maintaining sterile field using principles of aseptic technique; initiates corrective action when sterile technique is broken and maintains sterility while opening items; able to perform sponge, sharps and instrument counts correctly; follows policy for counts and initiates corrective action when counts are not correct, documents accurately on count sheets and performs a timeout prior to incision or procedure initiation
- Shows ability to provide equipment and supplies based on patient needs, anticipates needs, selects equipment in an organized manner, assures that equipment is working, and takes appropriate action on any malfunctioning equipment
