Sustainability Analyst

West Salem Machinery (WSM), a division of Bruks-Siwertell Group, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, seeks to hire a Sustainability Coordinator to work at our Salem, Oregon manufacturing site. As part of the Bruks-Siwertell Group, each division must manage the necessary processes, systems, and reporting methods to comply with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) required of all EU companies and their subsidiaries worldwide. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage reporting requirements while assisting the organization in reducing its ecological footprint to ensure that sustainability goals are met across various functions.

Each division must collect the necessary date to report results and create annual action plans to work toward the group ambitions referenced below.

Bruks-Siwertell Group has formalized a roadmap focused on short and long-term sustainability goals and ambitions. The Group has set several ambitions for 2030, for example, in environmental responsibility:

  • Aiming for a fifty percent reduction, compared to 2019, in CO2 emissions.
  • Ninety percent circularity of products
  • Zero percent waste at offices
  • Switch to 100 percent renewable energy

Job description

The Sustainability Analyst will be responsible for implementing the WSM sustainability plan, with an initial focus on preparing the data required for carbon footprint calculations. The role includes coordinating audits and projects, compliance reporting, tracking metrics, and working with Bruks-Siwertell corporate resources to ensure that WSM can calculate the carbon emissions of the company’s product and service portfolio.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

Lead the site efforts to meet our corporate C.S.R.D. requirements stated above.

  • Construct all reporting and improvement work based on the 12 ESG categories.
  • Collect and compile emissions and ESG data from various sources, including. accounting systems, purchasing data, project files, invoices, internet searches and direct communication with suppliers. Utilizing Position Green for data management.
  • Analize company expenses using statistical and data visualization tools to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with the finance and procurement teams to ensure that accounting records, such as supplier invoices and employee expense reports, provide the required details to allow carbon emissions to be calculated.
  • Develop reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders, including senior management, sustainability teams, and external partners.
  • Manage sustainability data and tracking systems to ensure accuracy and completeness of data. Compile data sets monthly and quarterly for efficient annual roll up.
  • Work with cross-functional sales, purchasing, operations teams to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to reduce environmental impact.
  • Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in sustainability and identifying opportunities to apply these practices at WSM. Participating in the development and implementation of new sustainability initiatives, projects, and programs.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory and industry requirements related to sustainability reporting and ensuring compliance with these requirements.
  • Conduct training for employees, work to raise awareness and encourage best practices to reduce waste and GHG’s due to all operations.
  • Perform return on investment analysis for capital expenditures which are driven by sustainability goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a member of the Bruks-Siwertell Global Sustainability Team, participating in reoccurring Teams meetings with counterparts in Atlanta, GA., Germany, and Sweden.
  • Act as the Point of Contact (POC) for developing and ensuring the systems are in place to capture and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data for Scope 1, 2 and 3 as required.

A secondary responsibility of the position includes working on digitalization projects at WSM. Digitalization is an important strategic imperative for all Bruks-Siwertell businesses. At WSM, this work may include developing and updating the digitalization roadmap, updating project plans, and researching best practices in digitalization in all functional areas and in industrial products and services.

Qualifications & Experience

Success in this position will be heavily dependent on strong organization skills, utilizing existing methods and developing new methods for internal data collection. Strong analytical and business math skills, ability to work collaboratively with other departments, and communicating results via reports and some limited presentations requirements. It is more important to possess and demonstrate those skills than to have had prior ESG or sustainability experience. However, an individual who brings those skills and work experience in ESG or sustainability would be a very strong candidate.

Experience working in an industrial production business, specifically one based around large capital projects, would be highly valued.

  • A general interest in sustainability, environmental, and digitalization.
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful with the ability to take initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with ERP systems would be useful.
  • Ability to identify, extract and prepare data appropriate to a desired deliverable.

A variety of educational backgrounds or prior work experiences would be appropriate for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, accounting, or other fields.
  • Experience in a sustainability analyst or similar role.
  • Project management
  • Project costing, Purchasing, Program Management.

Pay: $51,900.00 - $65,400.00 per year
