What are the responsibilities and job description for the INTERPRETER/TRANSLATOR - CONTRACTED SERVICE position at West Springfield Public Schools?
West Springfield Public Schools is seeking a skilled Spanish-speaking interpreter to join our team on an as-needed basis. This role provides crucial language support during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for special education, as well as in other meetings involving parents, students, and school staff.
- Fluent in Spanish and English, with strong oral and written communication skills in both languages.
- Provides real-time, accurate interpretation during IEP and special education meetings, parent-teacher conferences,
and other relevant school meetings.
- Places calls to families, agencies, or other stakeholders to support school staff.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with diverse families.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification or coursework in interpretation/translation is a plus.
This position is part-time, as needed, with work occurring primarily during regular school hours. Opportunities to assist with occasional evening events may arise but are not required. Assignments will take place across various school locations within the district. Remote interpretation may be considered for some meetings, depending on district needs.
Salary: $18.00/hour - non-certified interpreter, $25.00/hour - certified interpreter
