What you can expect in the Tax Analyst role at West Star :
As a key member of the Corporate Accounting Department, the Tax Analyst will be responsible for a broad array of tax activities at West Star, providing guidance and support across all aspects of the business, including interfacing with various external parties as required. This role will support US Federal & State income, sales and use tax compliance. West Star operates many wholly-owned subsidiaries under a partnership structure with the main tax filing entity being a limited liability company. West Star also has one wholly-owned corporation that requires certain stand-alone state and federal tax filings. This role will conduct timely sales and use tax filings for our business units / locations, as well as oversee all aspects of Personal Property & Real Estate Taxes. These responsibilities require a grasp of tax regulations and theory, attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. This position will be hybrid and based in East Alton, Illinois.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including :
- Work with third-party consultants on the US federal and state income tax compliance, including review of consolidated federal income tax returns, and calculation of estimated tax payments.
- Assist in preparation of estimated federal and state income tax payment calculations. This will include annual, quarterly and estimated payments.
- Collaborate closely with internal West Star teams to examine activities and tax consequences across the corporation's locations.
- Assist with tax compliance and consulting projects, including evaluating the impact of new or emerging tax laws.
- Assist with property tax compliance, leveraging the team and systems to gather and send necessary data to ensure compliance and reporting.
- Work with third-party software system to analyze state tax nexus implications of payroll and on-site / remote service work performed by various business units and US subsidiaries.
- Assist third-party software provider with all Sales & Use Tax filings.
- Maintain appropriate sales tax exemptions within third-party software.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to finance and billing personnel regarding sales and use tax matters.
- Respond to notices from tax authorities.
- Research tax laws and regulations.
- Work with external third-parties on US federal and state payroll tax compliance, including communication with taxing authorities.
- Perform and coordinate annual state registration filings (annual reports).
- Ensure timely completion of other tax filings as needed (franchise tax, business tax, gross receipts tax, etc.).
- Perform ad hoc analysis of tax issues to support management inquiries, as requested.
