- Position Title: Teacher Assistant
Reports to: Education Coordinator
Classification: Non-Exempt
Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the assistant will help with the creation of an appropriate environment and assist in providing / leading daily routine experiences and activities that foster the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. He / she will assist the head teacher in the daily classroom operations and in meeting HSOR school readiness goals. The assistant will lead the class during the teacher’s absence and follow guidelines as outlined in the Agency plans for ECE, NAEYC and the Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations.
Productivity
· Assist the teacher in setting up and maintaining a positive and safe environment for children that provides warmth and support for all children.
· Assist the teacher with the daily classroom operations and lesson plan activities.
· Assist the teacher with the home visits and parent conferences.
· Assist with writing and implementing the lesson plan.
· Assist teacher with the mandated screenings for Head Start and UPK.
· Lead the class and write lesson plans during the teacher’s absence.
· Model appropriate behavior and language development.
· Write GOLD anecdotal records and collect samples of children’s work.
· Assist with the GOLD assessment process in Nov. Feb and May.
· Participate in Child Study team meetings for the children in your class.
· Assist teacher in maintaining the Education and NAEYC files.
· Create and keep a current updated Aspire profile.
Job Knowledge and Skills
· Have knowledge of the HSOR School Readiness / Family Goals
· Have / obtain a working knowledge of the Head Start ECE plan, Disability plan, High Scope Pre-K Curriculum, GOLD reporter and developmental and behavioral screening tools, Day Care Regulations and NAEYC guidelines.
· Complete training on effective communication with three to five year olds, their parents and other staff.
· Must be computer literate in Microsoft office (EXCEL, Access, etc.)
· Be familiar, able to use, input information in current tracking system (Child Plus).
· Complete CPR and First Aid class and attend age appropriate safety training.
· Complete at least 15 hours of training per year. (Workshops, conferences, etc.)
· Complete and additional / necessary training to maintain a current Pre-K CDA.
· Demonstrate competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.

· Be prompt for work and follow personnel policies related to absence, lateness, personal or family illness.
· Knows / follows the center’s procedures for handling emergencies. (I.e. fire, accident, and early dismissal)
· Report to the supervisor or her designee when you leave and upon return to the building.
· Attend education, and staff meetings as scheduled.
· Keeps training and CDA current.
· Keeps Aspire profile current.
· Follow Head Start Code of Conduct and confidentiality policy
· Follow HSOR Agency Plans and the Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations.
· Participate in program evaluations and activities including NAEYC accreditation process.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Preschool CDA OR AA/BA in ECE OR AA/BA degree with ECE credits (18) OR AA/BA in any area. Plus preschool experience.
