The Opportunity
Salary : Teacher Pay and Conditions, MPS / UPS max SEN, (£31,650 - £49,084) £5285
Contract Type : Fixed Term Contract for Summer Term 2025 / Secondment until 31 August 2025
Working Pattern : 32.5 hours per week, full time, Monday to Friday (part time hours may be considered)
Location : Countywide role, with casework in Horsham and Mid-Sussex

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sensory Support Team as a Qualified Advisory Teacher of the Deaf. The Sensory Support Team is highly regarded by parents and schools, and we are looking for an exceptional member of staff to join our team.
This role works with families, early years settings, and schools across West Sussex. Your casework will be based in Horsham and Mid-Sussex.
We are looking for someone who has recent experience of working with children who are deaf, in a variety of educational settings. You will have recent working knowledge of different hearing devices and assistive listening technologies, as well as a knowledge of different language and speech discrimination assessments.
You will ideally have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of educational legislation, the SEN Code of Practice and Ofsted inspection frameworks.

Our Sensory Support Team (SST) is part of West Sussex County Council’s (WSCC) Learning Service, focusing on better learning outcomes for children and young people. The SST is an advisory service, working with families, pre-schools, and schools in West Sussex, effectively delivering the statutory responsibilities and strategic priorities in the. Education and Learning Strategy 2023-25.
The SST supports the educational and developmental needs of children and young people with physical disabilities, hearing, and vision impairments. The SST aims to ensure that reasonable adjustments, inclusion support and duties under the Equalities Act are carried out. Central to the SST is partnership working with families and schools, to provide a coordinated and holistic multi-agency approach to meet the needs of children and young people with vision, hearing, and physical disabilities.
