Overview
Responsible for Ambulance operations, transferring and transporting of patient. Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Shift Manager, the Emergency Medical Technician Apprentice is responsible for assisting the licensed staff during transports on assigned shifts, with flexible schedules. Enrolled and completion of a certification course of study to allow applicant to sit for EMT certification exam for the State of Tennessee within one year of employment. Current Class D Tennessee Driver’s License. Current Basic Life Support card from American Heart Association. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital, the department director, or the shift supervisor. Employee is subject to random drug screening.
Responsibilities
Maintains basic skills as required by hospital for transferring of patient.
Establishes radio communication with EMS Dispatch as needed.
Assists in extrication of victims from damaged motor vehicles and hostile environments.
Assists license personnel as requested to ensure patient safety.
Perform duties as assigned in daily operation of quarters, involving patients, vehicles, department and equipment, following policies, procedures, and operating instructions.
Report activities to the Shift Manager including unusual occurrences and complaints from patients, families, physicians, or employees.
Attends all required department education meetings.
Participate in the clinical education of EMS students as needed.
Contribute to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, perform related responsibilities as required or directed and greet guest in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current Class D Tennessee Driver’s License.
Current Basic Life Support card from American Heart Association.
EXPERIENCE:
Public driving experience is a plus but not required. First Responder certification is desired but not required.
