- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all company equipment, including trucks, chippers, cranes, chainsaws, stump grinders, and other tree service machinery.
- Maintain records for vehicle repairs, inspections, and certifications.
- Maintain a well-organized inventory of tools, parts, and supplies needed for equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Ensure all equipment and vehicles meet OSHA and DOT (Department of Transportation) safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits of equipment and shop operations, addressing any issues that may arise.
- Lead staff in safe operation practices for both machinery and vehicles.
- Supervise and provide directions to maintenance technicians or shop staff, ensuring quality and efficiency in all work.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and inspection logs for each piece of equipment and vehicle.
- Implement best practices for equipment care and maintenance, aiming to improve operational efficiency.
Required Skills/ Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive technology, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance, preferably in a tree service, landscaping, or construction environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of vehicle and equipment systems.
- Proficiency with tools and diagnostic equipment used in equipment repairs.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills with a proactive approach.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
- Ability to work in outdoor or shop environments in varying weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, or kneeling while inspecting or repairing equipment.
Work Schedule and Availability:
- Flexible Hours: Availability of working varied hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, as needed.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods, sometimes with short notice, typically driven by weather conditions or operational needs.
- Extended Workdays: Ability to work 10-hour shifts and a minimum of 40 hours per week, with some instances requiring up to 16-hour days depending on project demands.
