Works under the general supervision of the Fleet Manager. Performs Utah State safety inspections and emissions (Gas & Diesel) test on city vehicles. Perform heavy duty trucks fluid changes, perform on-board diagnostic utilizing computerized scan equipment, diagnose charging system utilizing computerized testing equipment. Diagnose & replace suspension and steering components, performs maintenance & repairs on turbo charged diesel engine. Ability to read and interpret complex wiring schematics. Diagnose repair & recharge AC system. Ability to make repairs to different types of handheld construction equipment.
Starting Pay: $28.47 - $45.05 per hour; additional pay may be provided depending on experience
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Schedule: 40-hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Fire apparatus aerial inspections, maintenance, service, and repairs.
- Fire apparatus valve inspections, maintenance, rebuilds, repairs, and replacements.
- Fire apparatus pump inspections, maintenance, rebuilds, repairs, and replacements.
- Fire apparatus heavy duty independent front suspension rebuilds, repairs, and replacements.
- Fire apparatus & ambulance HVAC rebuilds, repairs, and replacements.
- Diagnose and repair driveline braking systems
- Maintenance on hydraulic generator located on fire apparatus & ambulance.
- Assist with annual fire apparatus pump test certifications.
- Navigate and utilize factory software.
- Make repairs and adjustment to air brake systems.
- Repair heavy duty air suspension and tag axles.
- Diagnose & repair diesel engine.
- Perform on board diagnostic.
- Diagnose repair & recharge AC system.
- Perform Utah State safety inspections emissions (Gas & Diesel) test.
- Ability to read and interpret complex wiring schematics.
- Diagnose charging system and make appropriate repairs.
- Install emergency lights & equipment.
- Install city decals.
- Remove and replace two-way radio systems.
- Remove and replace engines and transmission.
- Decommission city vehicles & equipment.
- Ability to diagnose problems, make repairs and adjustments on different types of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to make major repairs and adjustments to different types of construction and heavy equipment including hydraulic components.
- Assist other mechanics in performing major repairs such as over- hauls and major repairs for a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered road and stationary equipment.
- Ability to weld both stick and wire-feed, fabricate, manufacturer, and rebuild parts.
- Set an example for other employees by using safe practices and observing safety rules and regulations.
- Immediately take appropriate measures to ensure personal safety and the safety of others. Report safety concerns immediately to a supervisor or the Fleet Service Manager or the Fleet Manager.
- Attend safety/training meetings as required.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- At least eight (8) years of related experience and/or training.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fire truck experience is preferred.
Language Skills
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to use mathematical skills including basic math, algebra and geometry to solve complex problems related to the maintenance and repair of vehicles.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
- The following certifications must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Associated testing fees covered by the Fleet division, hands-on training provided.

Physical Demands

- As support staff to emergency crews, employee may be subject to temporary or permanent shift changes, mandatory overtime, and call outs as deemed appropriate to provide necessary services.
