Position Summary
The Parking Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring vehicles comply with state and local parking laws, city ordinances, and issue citations for violations. Parking compliance specialists will seek out and monitor parking violations such as parking in a no-parking zone, timed parking, handicapped parking, and any other type of illegal parking. The Parking Enforcement Specialist may be able to complete and/or assist with vehicle impounds. This position requires communication with dispatch, law enforcement, and other city departments. The Parking Compliance Specialist will wear an approved city uniform that is well maintained and professional.
Starting Pay: $20.97 per hour; additional pay may be provided depending on experience
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: 4 x 10-hour shifts per week, shifts run Monday-Thursday or Wednesday-Saturday, 6AM-4PM or 10AM-8PM *shift assignment received upon hire

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol neighborhoods, businesses and respond to radio calls, and other communications identifying parking violations and citing the offender(s).
- Maintain accurate records and proper documentation using appropriate hardware and software.
- Prepare cases for court and appear in court as needed.
- May be required to attend and participate in neighborhood watch meetings, and other gatherings of concerned citizens.
- Operate city vehicles safely.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- A Parking Compliance Officer must be self-motivated, exercise initiative, sound judgment, and decision making.
- Ability to conduct oneself in a position that will require tact and good interpersonal skills.
- Be able to work responsibly under pressure.
- Ability to maintain positive public relations and confidences while dealing diplomatically with department heads, city council, city employees, and outside agencies, and the public.
Equipment
- Safely operating and parking a city vehicle.
- Be familiar with computers, monitors, touch screens, multi-media devices, iPads/tablets, mobile phones, printers, scanners, and other equipment as assigned.
- Be familiar with and able to use tools of the trade such as vehicle locking devices (“Boots”).
Education and/or Experience
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Language Skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess a valid State of Utah Driver’s License and can safely operate a motor vehicle in various weather conditions.
Physical Demands
- Moderate physical effort requiring the “booting” of vehicles and the ability to move easily in and out of vehicles multiple times a day.
Work Environment
- This assignment is working from a vehicle with some office work.
- Much of the work will be in a vehicle with a computer, phone/tablet, and printer.
- The employee will be exposed to all weather conditions and high noise levels.
- Frequent exposure to stress because of human behavior and multiple tasks and assignments.
- Travel both inside and outside of West Valley City.
- Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends to accomplish tasks as needed.
