    Must have WV valid LPN license.

    TITLE: LPN/SUPERVISORY AIDE

    QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass the aide test and hold a valid LPN license issued by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses.

    REPORTS TO: Special Education Director, Principal and ultimately to the Superintendent (or designee).

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Performs duties efficiently and productively.
    • Function as a contributing member of the school staff in all aspects of the school program.
    • Assess and evaluate the total health and developmental status of students through the use of appropriate evaluative techniques.
    • Administer medication to children for whom medication has been prescribed for the treatment of chronic disabilities.
    • Perform specialized health procedures
    • Train county personnel and school staff in emergency care, specialized health care, and medication administration procedures.
    • Assist students, parents, and teachers in obtaining optimum health by stimulating behavior change through individual and group health counseling.
    • Ensure compliance with school health regulations.
    • Assist students, parents, and teachers to adapt to chronic health problems of students.
    • Set and maintain standards of emergency care to minimize the effects of accidents and illness in the school.
    • Participate in IEP meetings when appropriate for the purpose of development of health care plans for students in need of specialized care (i.e., catheterization, suctioning, etc.)
    • Administer first aid, if necessary.
    • Aid in lunchroom monitoring and sometimes clean-up as required.
    • Assist students in their movement about the building and on and off the school bus. Some LPN positions may require the LPN to ride the bus with the student to and from school.
    • Assist students with bathroom facilities and any other necessary requirements in this area.
    • Maintain constant surveillance of the students as outlined by the teacher and principal and is legally and morally responsible for the supervision of the student.
    • Insure the safety and comfort of the student as it is deemed necessary by the principal and teacher.
    • Obtain knowledge of operation of any equipment required by the student.
    • Supervise on the playground.
    • Supervise indoor activities in lieu of playground on days of inclement weather.
    • Supervise the loading and unloading of buses (where required). May be required to ride bus with student to and from school.
    • Ride and supervise on the school bus where required and as requested.
    • May assist handicapped students in the classroom, restroom or playground and moving in and out of the building; also, diaper changing, feeding, lifting and potty training. Specialized health care procedures.
    • Instruction duties consisting of teacher-directed assistance; works with small groups of children, reading/story telling.
    • Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snacks, toilet, and clothing routines.
    • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
    • Insure that protective safety devices are in use and fastened properly.
    • Helps bus operator with care and cleaning of the bus.
    • Classroom housekeeping.
    • Preparation and care of instructional materials
    • Maintenance and care of equipment.
    • Follow county policy and procedures.
    • Perform duties efficiently and productively.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by school, county or RESA supervisors
    • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the teacher, principal or supervisor.
    • Lifting students with special needs is required – approximately 30 to 100 lbs.
    • Moving a minimum of 50 lbs.
    • Pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs. when needed for students with special needs (Wheelchairs)
    • Climb stairs on bus/in schools
    • Bending/Kneeling
    • Maintains confidentiality for each student.
    • Telephones parents when requested to do so in order to notify them of schedule changes.
    • Any other tasks assigned by principal, teacher or supervisor.

    • Maintains a professional appearance.

    • Cooperate with principal and teachers in any way necessary to enhance the overall learning situation.
    • Supports county policies and procedures.



    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated twice a year for employees with a continuing contract and three times a year for employees with a probationary contract. This is in accordance with provisions of the Hancock County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
