What are the responsibilities and job description for the Practical Nursing Instructor position at West Virginia Department of Education?
- Required: 7041 Practical Nursing (LPN) – Wage Earning Experience – Completed 3 years (6,000 clock hours) employment as a registered professional nurse, 3 years immediately preceding employment as a faculty member; have or be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program; have at least 3 years of experience as a registered professional nurse which should include 2 years of patient side nursing care experience in an acute, intermediate or long term care clinical facility; 1 year experience in one or more of the following areas: teaching, supervision or administration; and present evidence of continuing education.
- Preferred: 7042 Nursing Aide (Therapeutic Services) – Wage Earning Experience – Bachelor’s Degree. – Hold a bachelor’s degree in an area related to the specialization AND complete two years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested, which includes 1 year (2,080 hours) in a certified nursing home or distinct part of a hospital that meets the requirements of subacute/rehabilitation/nursing home experience; OR Associate Degree. – Hold an Associate Degree in an area related to the specialization AND complete two (2) years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested, which includes 1 year (2,080 hours) in a certified nursing home or distinct part of a hospital that meets the requirements of subacute/rehabilitation/nursing home experience.
- Industry candidates must pass Basic Skills (CBEST reading, writing, mathematics) as prescribed by the West Virginia Department of Education.
- Must hold valid, unencumbered West Virginia License as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the West Virginia Board of Examiners of Registered Professional Nurses.
- Have or be working toward a baccalaureate degree, preferably in nursing.
- Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia State Board of Education Minimum Standards for licensure of West Virginia School Personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with industry, students, school personnel, and parents.
- Educational philosophy compatible with Roane-Jackson Technical Center Administrative Council.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others including industry and community members.
- High academic achievement in college education program or industry certification program.
- Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning.
- Participate as a sponsor for the student organization Skills USA.
- Develop and foster relationships for the program with the WVDE, local business and industry, local county boards of education and higher education institutions in the region.
- Participate in programmatic and school-wide accreditation initiatives.
- Must be recommended by the Technical Center Director and Faculty Senate representative(s).
- Successfully complete a criminal background check.
- Have a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
- A flexible instructional style is necessary.
- Demonstrate a collaborative attitude and belief in co-teaching.
- Demonstrate ease with using instructional technology.
- Implement programs of study.
- Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Utilize instructional management system models which increase student learning.
- Monitor student progress towards mastery of Instructional Content Standards.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues in the educational community on a regular basis.
- Meet professional responsibilities.
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
- Maintain productive work habits.
- Promote and maintain positive pupil-teacher relationships.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, or Program Coordinator.
- Maintain an active Occupational Advisory Committee for the instructional areas.
- Spend over 200 days instructing adults with the possibility of some high school student instruction at times. This may include clinical settings that will be in healthcare facilities throughout the region.
