What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute School Nurse position at West Virginia Department of Education?
- Eligibility for Professional Certification for School Nurse:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Hold a valid Registered Nurse license for the state of West Virginia.
- Complete the required school nurse certification program.
- Collaborate with district leadership and principals to provide leadership for school health at the local school level that meets the needs of students in the school.
- Deliver school-based health services at the school level.
- Conduct applicable health screenings.
- Collaborate with county level health officials and health care agencies to promote wellness at the school.
- Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records.
- Implement follow-up services to ensure maintained health.
- Maintain patient confidentiality as prescribed by law.
- Provide individual healthcare services for students and staff.
- Assist with medical clinics.
- Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases by assessment, referral, and follow-up measures.
- Counsel parents and students with pertinent information regarding health needs.
- Provide emergency and first aid care as appropriate.
- Assess immunization status of students entering Summers County Schools and provide required reports to applicable agencies.
- Complete health assessments as directed by various Summers County Schools departments.
- Obtain health information as required by state law, Summers County Board of Education, and West Virginia Board of Education Policy.
- Maintain professional work habits.
- Regularly upgrade works skills.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or supervisor.
