General Description
At William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital, we are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Therapeutic Programs Director to lead our Rehabilitative Services Department. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee a variety of essential programs aimed at improving the well-being and recovery of our patients, including Therapeutic Recreation, Vocational Training, Expressive Therapy, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Rehabilitative Services Department, including Therapeutic Recreation, Vocational Training/Patient Employment Program, Expressive Therapy, and the Patient Library.
- Oversee the hospital’s exercise center, ensuring programs meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and special needs.
- Develop, evaluate, and implement patient-centered therapeutic programs that enhance the hospital’s active treatment model.
- Train, mentor, and support staff in creating effective treatment plans, and oversee the daily operations of therapeutic services.
- Establish program standards, modify services based on patient feedback and outcomes, and work closely with multidisciplinary treatment teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor program effectiveness through QAPI, statistical analysis, and other metrics, preparing reports that reflect progress and success.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and development of department staff, fostering a supportive, collaborative work environment.

Important Information:
Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. This is a tobacco free campus. Pre-employment drug screening is required. Applicants selected must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. All employees shall be subject to drug testing for probable cause as set forth in bureau and agency polices. Applicants must successfully complete a background check.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in rehabilitation, psychiatric, recreation, physical or occupational therapy, including responsibility for program design and evaluation.
Substitutions for Experience:
Six (6) years of rehabilitation, psychiatric, recreation, physical or occupational therapy may substitute for the required experience.
OR
Registration as a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant or a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist as certified through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation will substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
