The Transportation Worker 3 Auto Body Repair, under limited supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the auto body repair of all highway equipment. This person will often serve as a working shop leader and will be responsible for mentoring lower level transportation workers. The selected applicant will perform all the preparation for auto body repair including cleaning, sanding, taping, and repairing dents and replacing rusted part of the vehicle bodies in preparation of painting. Painting and repairs, such as priming, painting and clear coating, will be done using air compressors and paint sprayers. Performs welding, fiberglass work, and fabricating new panels; Makes blueprints for metal and glass for installing new parts; Repairs electrical lights, wiring and minor mechanical problems; Orders parts and materials for shop supplies; Completes work orders. Along with the auto-body repair, this incumbent will install windshields and door glass on vehicles and equipment. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). However, a Transportation Worker 3 Crew Chief is excluded and the applicant will not be placed within a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program.In the area of assignment of Auto Body, Bridge Maintenance, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.Pay Grade 12HHourly Rate: $22.7113

REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION: No formal education required.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Auto Body Repair: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing auto body repair.Auto Body Repair Experience Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience in the specified area of assignment.
