Parks/Panther State Forest/McDowell County Working with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this employee will supervise all aspects of the building maintenance program at Panther State Forest. Employee must have extensive practical knowledge of and experience in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, heating/air conditioning, and the ability to supervise maintenance, renovation, and repair to the same. Professional certifications in any of the above will be given considerable weight in the selection process.
This individual will supervise other employees and will also be required to prepare schedules and assign duties based upon priority and need. Employee should have some basic knowledge of budgetary and bidding procedures mandated by the Purchasing Division or ability to learn and become proficient with the same. This will be a working supervisory position with performance of the same or related duties as assigned to staff as well as visually inspecting work performed.
This individual will be responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on, around, and in all buildings; appliances and equipment within these buildings; water lines; electrical systems; telephones; roofs; and any other facilities necessary. Must have the ability to plan renovations and other special projects. Current facilities on the 10,975 acres of Panther State Forest include a swimming pool, a 60-person group camp, a campground, picnic areas/rental shelters, hiking trails, and game courts. Employee will work with park guests to immediately resolve their maintenance requests in a manner reflecting a positive image for Panther State Forest. Will also work directly with Superintendents to plan and conduct repairs and upgrades in related areas. Will supervise and schedule auto maintenance and order supplies for maintenance and cleaning as well as other supplies.
Responsible for upkeep of tools and all work areas. Employee will operate under supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and the Superintendent. Must work to foster good employee, community, and park guest relations. Must always maintain safe work practices for self and other staff. Employee must be available for emergency repairs as scheduled on a “subject to call” basis. Must wear the provided uniform. Must have valid driver’s license. Employee must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and night shifts. Employee must be available for “on call” work. Employee will work throughout all park facilities.
Employee must be able to lift and move heavy objects. Employee will be required to work on ladders and at rooftop heights. Employee will be required within 18 months of appointment to obtain a Class S Sewage Treatment Plant Operator License. Licenses and any further, advanced, or additional permit licensing and/or requirements necessary to operate the sewage treatment system at the park will be obtained and maintained throughout employment. Regular attendance required. Employee performs all other necessary duties as assigned or required Training: Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent. Substitution: Additional experience as described below may be substituted on a year-for year basis for the required education up to four years.
Experience: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid employment in general maintenance or construction work on buildings, grounds, or electrical and mechanical equipment, at least one year of which has been in a leadwork or supervisory capacity. Substitution: Successful completion of study in an accredited college or university in building trades, or related business or vocational school training may be substituted for the general experience on a year-for-year basis up to two years. Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
