Job Description Summary
Provides instructional design support and consultation for faculty developing courses and interactive learning modules.
Works with faculty, particularly in technical fields, to design and revise curriculum in formats and modalities that meet the non-traditional needs of students enrolled in technical and workforce programs. The Instructional Designer will assist faculty in
identifying competencies and will guide the faculty in developing curriculum in alternative formats, including modularized instruction, and in appropriately incorporating instructional technology into courses and programs. Additionally, the individual will provide training and workshops for faculty in these areas.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to
Apply learning theory to the design, development, and evaluation of courses and programsAssist faculty in selection of effective and efficient instructional strategies for distance education teaching and learning (e.g., tutorials, simulations, and problem-solving modules).Assist faculty with building / uploading course content within the current Learning Management System (LMS) using proper design standards.Assist faculty and staff with course development and design in accordance with quality standards and / or products adopted by the institution.Assist faculty in conversion of existing online courses to current institutional platform(s).Assist faculty with the conversion of existing, traditionally delivered courses into the online delivery format.Conduct faculty development seminars and workshops in the instructional development process and in the use of corresponding design, development and management tools.Provide individualized faculty training in the use of the Learning Management System including tools, course content design and development.Develop repository of resources and best practices for faculty.Administer and coordinate system wide and course settings in the current Learning Management System (LMS).Coordinate with WVNET to load courses into the Learning Management System (LMS) each semester and apply course settings as appropriateMaintain the Learning Management System course templateMonitor the online learning management system tutorial resourcesand provide students with guidance and instruction as needed.Serve as Tier 1 tech support for end users and escalating requests as neededServe as learning management system liaison with platform host institution (WVNET).Serve as primary institutional contact for NC-SARA and other entities as appropriate and assigned, including completing mandatory data reports and annual renewals.Maintain appropriate credentials and certifications to train faculty and staff in quality assurance standards, including teaching a course in one's discipline at least once every 18 months.Serve as institutional coordinator for quality assurance standards; monitor faculty training, establish peer review team(s), initiate and monitor internal course reviews, work with faculty to ensure courses meet established standards.Assist the Director of the CELT in development of strategic goals and planning for online education. Develop and recommend policy for online learning.Serve as a standing member of college Distance Education Committee.Work closely with faculty, IT and Director of the CELT to determine needs of academic technology and assist Director of the CELT to facilitate development of instructional technology policy and procedures.Collect data and generate reports to assess effectiveness of online learning initiatives and progress on strategic goals.Qualifications and Requirements
Master's degree in discipline required; master's in Educational Technology, Instructional Design or related field preferred.
College teaching experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities; Additional Information
Demonstrated expertise in instructional design theory and techniques and in the development, delivery, and evaluation of online courses.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill with at least one learning management system (LMS), preferably D2L Brightspace , including course design and delivery and system administration.
Strong interpersonal skills, management skills and writing skills are required.
