Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Prevention Services (SAPS) Grant Coordinator to lead and support prevention efforts across Region 4. This position focuses on fostering community collaboration, promoting substance-free activities, addressing health disparities, and advancing prevention strategies to reduce substance use and misuse. The Coordinator will work closely with regional coalitions, community partners, and stakeholders to implement comprehensive prevention frameworks and engage targeted populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaboration and Outreach: Partner with WVPS and all counties within Region 4 to ensure consistent messaging and continuity of services, with emphasis on underserved communities.
- Community Engagement:
- Promote youth engagement and leadership through substance-free activities and prevention initiatives.
- Collaborate with local coalitions and partners to organize community events.
- Establish a women's network focusing on substance-involved, pregnant, or postpartum women.
- Develop youth-led prevention teams to foster peer education, mentoring, and adult partnerships.
- Address health disparities by engaging marginalized and high-risk populations, including BIPOC, LGBTQ, elderly, veterans, and justice-involved individuals.
- Regional Strategy Development: Maintain an updated regional plan that aligns with funding guidelines and addresses substance use prevention efforts.
- Participation and Reporting:
- Attend regional and state prevention meetings and training sessions.
- Collaborate with partners to assess behavioral health resources and reduce stigma.
- Report activities, challenges, and accomplishments to the Executive Director and management team.
- Data and Evaluation: Collect and share community data, participate in school surveys, and develop strategic plans that align with prevention outcomes. Ensure monthly reporting compliance using the BBH WITS system.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., public health, social work, or related discipline).
- Certification as a Prevention Specialist I or II (or willingness to achieve certification within two years).
- Experience in substance abuse prevention, community organizing, or program coordination.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Commitment to promoting health equity and addressing health disparities.
