The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) is actively searching for a highly qualified individual to fill a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Medical Cellular/Molecular Biology and Genetics. The successful applicant must have a PhD, MD, DO or related terminal degree and completion of a postdoctoral fellowship is desirable. A commitment to excellence in teaching is required as the primary responsibility of the position will include instruction in the Master of Biomedical Sciences, Osteopathic Medicine, and other graduate programs. Applicants with an equivalent combination of relevant and recent experience, education, or training that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Faculty in this position report to the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences.
The WVSOM Master of Biomedical Sciences program is a one-year (non-thesis) program that focuses on preparing students for healthcare careers, and in particular the rigors of medical education. Our program includes core biomedical science disciplines and courses that focus on health, wellness and disease prevention. The WVSOM Osteopathic Medicine program utilizes an integrated curriculum, employing a variety of formats and modalities that emphasize active learning. Team-teaching is routine and the successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively in the delivery of the medical cellular/molecular biology and genetics content.
Teaching facilities at WVSOM include a cutting-edge lecture facility, team-based learning room, and a state-of-the-art simulation center. This position will be filled at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with full state benefits. Faculty rank and salary is based on the individual’s qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package and moving expenses. The position is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime. Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and may require regular evening and weekend scheduling. Travel including overnight travel is required.

A faculty member’s particular job duties are assigned on a regular basis by the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences.
- Represent WVSOM in a positive and professional manner.
- Be familiar with and adhere to the administrative and academic practices, policies and procedures of WVSOM as set forth in the Faculty Handbook, Employee Handbook and WVSOM institutional policies.
- Submit an annual Faculty Self-Study.
- Meet all goals established in the Faculty Self-Study each year.
- Participate in appropriate committees and panels as requested.
- Maintain literacy in the faculty’s field of expertise.
- Support student clubs by being a faculty advisor as requested.
- Participate in faculty development and faculty meetings. May be asked to attend graduation, White Coat ceremony, faculty in-service meetings, and other events as recommended by the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean.
- Faculty members are expected to engage in service and other scholarly activity as part of their responsibilities at WVSOM.
- Other duties as assigned and agreed upon with the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean.
