West Virginia University (WVU) is currently inviting applications for an Assistant / Associate Professor position in its CACREP-Accredited master's level counseling programs. This faculty position is housed in the newly established WVU College of Applied Human Sciences (CAHS), where academic excellence is not just a goal, but a shared passion. Appointment :

This faculty position is full-time, tenure track; it does include a research component with an expectation for securing external funding. The 9-month position is based on the Morgantown campus beginning August 15, 2025. Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on course demand.

Responsibilities :

We are seeking a highly qualified individual who will contribute to the mission of the institution by working with faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will teach in person and possibly online courses in the School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health specializations, and maintain a related line of research supported through external funds. In addition, they will contribute to student growth and development including student advising supervision, and mentorship. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide service to the school, college, university, and profession. The service responsibilities could include program coordination and / or clinical field placement coordination depending on previous experience.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

Minimal qualifications require that the applicant meet the 2024 CACREP standards definition for a core faculty member : (1) have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or (2) have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or (3) have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or (4) have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018. Other qualifications are as follows :

  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in clinical mental health and school counseling, possibly those in counseling skills and techniques, clinical counseling courses, and research methods.
  • Demonstrated proof of creative and impactful teaching with adult learners, including proficiency in online instructional formats.
  • Capacity to maintain a focused line of research that can be supported through external funding.
  • Proven track record in driving innovation, showcasing resourcefulness, and consistently adopting a solutions-oriented approach to overcome challenges effectively.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, and lead.

Preferred qualifications include :

  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of West Virginia.
  • Prior experience serving as an academic program coordinator and / or clinical field placement coordinator in a CACREP accredited counselor education program.
  • Ability to serve as primary core faculty in the School Counseling specialization.
